Dry Cough Common Symptoms of Omicron
The symptoms that appear in the transmission of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 are not much different from the previous variants. Even so, most patients who show symptoms complain of a dry cough and sore throat.
Examination also needs to be done immediately so that treatment can be given early. “Virus transmission in this Omicron variant is not found in lung tissue too much, but in the respiratory tract. Therefore, the symptoms that appear are mostly dry cough and sore throat," said a pulmonary specialist at the Friendship General Hospital (RSUP), Erlina Burhan, in Jakarta, Monday (24/1/2022). Based on patient data on positive cases of the Omicron variant at Persahabatan Hospital, of the total 17 patients treated, 11 patients complained of mild symptoms. Of the symptomatic patients, 63 percent had a dry cough, 54 percent had a sore throat, 27 percent had a runny nose, 36 percent complained of a headache, and 18 percent complained of a fever. General chairman of the Indonesian Lung Doctors Association (PDPI) Agus Dwi Susanto added that mild symptoms, which are more commonly found in cases of transmission of the Omicron variant, should not be underestimated. The Omicron variant has a faster transmission rate. Deterioration in patients remains at risk, especially in vulnerable groups. From the Covid-19 cases of the Omicron variant that were reported to have died in Indonesia, it was known that they had not been vaccinated and had comorbidities. This shows that vaccination and protection of vulnerable groups is very much needed.
