Seeing the Direction of Indonesia's Pandemic Curve Ahead
The addition of daily Covid-19 cases in Indonesia again reached a record high with the addition of 40,427 cases on Monday (12/7/2021)
With this addition, the number of active cases nationally reached 380,797. Meanwhile, the death toll increased by 891 people, bringing the total to 67,355 people. The official data on the number of cases and fatalities is far lower than the actual situation. A serological survey by the DKI Jakarta Health Office and the University of Indonesia Faculty of Public Health (FKM) team on March 15-31 2021 showed that 44.5 percent of the population in the capital had been infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19. The survey also found that as many as 81.6 percent of people who had been infected were not detected, especially those who were asymptomatic. "This shows that the test and tracking system has not been able to check for asymptomatic people," said FKM UI Epidemiologist Pandu Riono. With a total population of 10.6 million in Jakarta with a prevalence of infection in March of 44.5 percent, the number of people who have been infected is 4,717,000 people. However, of the cases that have been reported on March 31, only 382,000 people. "So, the system in Jakarta is only able to detect 8.19 percent of cases and more than 90 percent of the undetected cases. Even though the number of checks in Jakarta is the highest," he said. A health practitioner who is also a data volunteer at KawalCOVID19, Septian Hartono, pointed out that many regions deliberately did not report cases and deaths, in order to be considered successful in handling the pandemic.
