Communal Immunity Path

Recently, the private or individual mutual cooperation vaccination program which was originally scheduled to start on Monday (12/7) has finally been postponed.
Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin emphasized that Mutual Cooperation Vaccination is an option for the community in accessing the Covid-19 vaccine. The Minister of Health explained that the reason for opening access to the Gotong Royong Vaccine for individuals was to expand the reach of vaccination. "In principle, the government opens wide options for people who want to take the Mutual Cooperation Vaccine, either through companies or through individuals," he said, Monday (12/7). Director of Prevention and Control of Directly Infectious Diseases of the Ministry of Health as well as spokeswoman for the handling of Covid-19 Siti Nadia Tarmizi said that the vaccines used in the self-vaccination program were the result of purchases and did not use grants from other countries. This scheme is considered to be an alternative to speed up vaccination. An expert on disaster sociology from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Sulfikar Amir assessed that individual Mutual Assistance Vaccination could actually hamper the national vaccination rate. According to him, the implementation of a paid vaccination program is not appropriate when the herd immunity target has not been achieved. "This will create a market and this market will erode the supply allocated for free vaccines because there is a profit interest there," he said. He also suggested that vaccination schemes should be implemented. The paid program is opened after the realization of vaccination reaches 70% of the population. Professor of the Faculty of Public Health, University of Indonesia, Hasbullah Thabrany, suggested that the government should encourage the private sector to play a role in accelerating national vaccination efforts. According to him, the vaccination target can be directed at the participants of the Health Social Security Administering Body who are already registered at private health facilities.
