Food Task Force Findings: Cooking Oil Mixed with Water
The Food Task Force of the Indonesian National Police revealed irregularities in cooking oil in the midst of the spike in the price of basic commodities.
A total of 61.18 tons of cooking oil are stockpiled in Makassar, South Sulawesi, and cooking oil mixed with water in Kudus, Central Java. Head of the National Police Food Task Force Inspector General Pol. Helmy Santika said that the team found 61.18 tons of bulk cooking oil in Makassar which was supposed to be for the community but was sold to industry players at a high price. The bulk cooking oil, he continued, came from South Kalimantan and was then sent to the Makassar area of South Sulawesi to be stockpiled by the perpetrators before being distributed to industry. “So this cooking oil is for household needs, but by the actors it was transferred to the industry. This is more expensive than the bulk," he said at the National Police Headquarters. In addition to the Makassar area, the National Police's Food Task Force has also uncovered the stockpiling of bulk cooking oil in the Kupang area, East Nusa Tenggara and North Sumatra. However, Helmy did not explain in detail the volume of cooking oil stockpiled by the perpetrators in the two areas.
