Government Assists People's Palm Oil Plantation Facilities and Infrastructure

The government encourages smallholder oil palm plantations to boost crop productivity which leads to an increase in the community's economy. One of them is a package of facilities and infrastructure (sarpras) such as fertilizers and pesticides. “This assistance is in the context of building an early-stage oil palm plantation.
The priority areas are on the border, post-conflict, post-disaster areas as well as poor and disadvantaged areas," said Director of Processing and Marketing of Plantation Products, Directorate General of Plantations, Ministry of Agriculture (Kemtan) Dedi Junaedi. According to Dedi, in 2021 the Ministry of Agriculture is targeting 171 facilities and infrastructure packages for oil palm farmers throughout Indonesia. The packages are in the form of seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides. In addition, assistance for road improvement and repair in oil palm plantations. "This work is in the form of improving the quality of roads for harvesting, production, collection roads, connecting roads, culverts and rehabilitation of water management," he said. The government also helps farmers to obtain Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oi (ISPO) certification through technical verification so that they implement the principles of sustainable gardening. The targets are farmer groups, cooperatives and other planters' economic institutions.
